College Life

There's quite a bit of difference between high school life and college life. For starters, the amount of freedom that college students have can sometimes lead to problems. You're meeting new people, taking harder classes, and really having to do things you've never experienced before. Here are a few things to think about that might help point you in a direction that keeps college fun.

Despite what your friends might be doing, you're a college student, which means you need to go to classes regularly. Sure, you can miss a class here or there, especially if you've met a friend that can share their notes, but missing too many classes will absolutely ruin your chances of performing well. You're not going to miss out on that college fun if you got to class, and college life won't be any fun when you fail your classes and have to return home. Use your head. You're an adult, or at least you're supposed to act like one. Take responsibility for your own success by doing what you're there for - going to classes.

A second bit of good advice - after attending classes, get involved in campus activities. Join a college club, find a cool hangout spot, meet new people, and make yourself known. Part of the college student experience is learning and exploring. Get out and do something with yourself and you'll find that college life is more than just dorm rooms and classrooms. Get involved and explore.

Thirdly, quit all of that worthless procrastinating! Learn to manage your time. This is another part of the learning process as a college student. If you put off what is important, you'll just increase your stress levels. And this can lead to other problems, so prioritize and figure out a schedule that works for you. There are some college class prep courses that can teach you how to do this.

Lastly, and a real good one for combining different aspects of the student life, learn to cook. Cooking in college is another of those little life experiences that can be both fun and rewarding. It's cheaper than eating out, and most of the time dorm food doesn't taste good and isn't that healthy. A great way to date is to invite them over for a good, home-cooked meal - so, learn to cook. And here's a helpful study tip: invite the smart person in your class over for a meal, and they're likely to share some real academic insight. Now, that's smart!

Another little juicy bit of college life advice is something fairly new on the college student scene called Facebook.com. If you're familiar with networking sites like Myspace, then Facebook.com will make perfect sense. It lists all kinds of cool people and events that are related to your specific college. Check it out! You'll probably discover some students and events you don't know about.

College life is supposed to be fun, no doubt. If you take these words of advice to heart and learn to manage your time and resources, college fun will be more meaningful, and you'll stay focused on that ultimate goal - graduation!
